BEAR PATROL

he looks so small from this distance. the first one we saw unexpectedly when we came around the curve seemed MUCH larger. :)

walklog:

05-17 ladysmith, hydro trail -> holland creek trail (lower), 8.8 km 3:32, elevation gain 1048m. more heat wave, and more manly resistance to being slain by it from the paramour and myself -- luckily most of the trail was through the forest, even along the hydro line. holland creek is very cool. the falls were not easily seen through the trees though; now i definitely need to walk te last km of the upper trail and hope i can get a better view; it looked like it might be possible. the lower trail is wider and generally less rollercoastery than the upper one, except for one section with never-ending stairs.

also, we now have a better feeling for how long the heart lake and stocking lake loops are, and we know we can do them this year. woohoo! i need a larger waterbottle for those hikes.

BEARS! just before the chicken ladder dam, at the very end of the offshoot trail that ends there. quite exciting. i shall wear bells when i next come out here alone.

Oh, how wonderful! I've seen bears back home, but not out here.

Wow! Our wildlife is just not that cool, even if I suspect a kookaburra of keeping me company for a while today.

Now you can put up a sign saying "Bear sighted today."

It's a godless, rampaging killing machine!

Cool. That one is shaped almost exactly like our late, lamented cat...
